The Insurance Authority (IA) hosted a workshop on International Financial Reporting Standard 17 Insurance Contracts (IFRS 17) for the Asian Forum of Insurance Regulators (AFIR) in Hong Kong on 12 December 2018.

The event was attended by over 30 delegates from 15 jurisdictions in the Asia Pacific region, together with experts from the accounting profession, insurance groups and consultants.

“As Chairman of AFIR, Hong Kong is proud to host this workshop to contribute towards enhancing the capacity building for regulators in the Asia Pacific region,” said Mr. Clement Cheung, Chief Executive Officer of the IA.

Participants of the workshop discussed some technical issues and common challenges in implementing IFRS 17. An agreement was also reached to make continued use of the AFIR platform to share experience and explore feasible solutions.
